Our students recently took their kindness beyond the classroom during an exciting school-wide assembly, Beat the Street offered by Safe Routes Utah!
Designed to feel like a video game, the assembly challenged students to become safety “players” as they learned important skills for walking, biking, and crossing the street safely. Through engaging activities and interactive scenarios, students practiced one of the most important rules of all: Be alert and ready.
Students learned that being safe means paying attention to what is happening around them, making smart choices, and taking the time to cross carefully. They were reminded to look for traffic, stay aware of their surroundings, and make sure they are ready before stepping into the street.
At our school, we believe kindness is more than being nice. Kindness is taking care of ourselves and the people around us. Following safety rules is one way we show kindness to our families, friends, drivers, and community.
The video-game format kept students engaged while turning important safety lessons into something memorable and fun. Instead of simply hearing about street safety, students got to think, respond, and practice making safe choices.
Being kind means looking out for one another. Being safe means being alert and ready. Together, we can Beat the Street!
